AWS Unleashes Advanced Prompt Optimizer in Bedrock to Curb AI Inference Costs
AWS has launched Amazon Bedrock Advanced Prompt Optimization, a new tool designed to automatically refine prompts for generative AI models, the company announced Thursday. The tool, accessible through the Bedrock console, aims to boost accuracy, consistency, and efficiency across multiple large language models (LLMs) while reducing operational costs.
According to AWS, the tool first evaluates prompts against user-defined datasets and metrics, then rewrites them for optimal performance across up to five inference models. It benchmarks the optimized versions against the originals, helping developers identify the best configurations for specific workloads.
“Enterprise demand for such tools is being driven by a convergence of cost pressure and operational complexity when it comes to scaling AI, rather than any single factor,” said Gaurav Dewan, research director at Avasant. “Inference spending is quickly becoming a board-level concern as enterprises move generative AI workloads from experimentation into production.”
Background
The tool addresses a critical pain point: as organizations scale generative AI from pilots to production, inference costs and model performance become top priorities. Even small improvements in prompt efficiency can yield significant savings at scale, analysts say.

Bedrock Advanced Prompt Optimization is already generally available across 11 AWS regions, including US East, US West, Mumbai, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Canada (Central), Frankfurt, Ireland, London, Zurich, and São Paulo. Pricing is based on the same per-token rates as standard Bedrock inference workloads, meaning enterprises pay only for the tokens consumed during optimization.
The tool also tackles latency challenges, which are especially critical for customer-facing AI applications. “Prompt optimization can help by enabling more systematic optimization of quality, latency, and cost, rather than relying on trial and error,” Dewan added.

What This Means
For enterprises, this tool represents a shift from manual, hit-or-miss prompt engineering to automated, data-driven refinement. It allows developers to test multiple model configurations quickly and choose the most cost-effective and performant options.
Multi-model strategies are accelerating as firms seek flexibility to move workloads based on cost, performance, and governance needs. “Prompt optimization is increasingly becoming critical in ensuring applications and workflows can move between models without introducing behavioral inconsistencies or performance degradation,” said Sanchit Vir Gogia, chief analyst at Greyhound Research.
The launch signals that AWS is doubling down on operational efficiency tools for generative AI, aiming to make large-scale deployments more economical and reliable. As inference costs become a boardroom issue, automated prompt optimization could become a standard step in the AI development lifecycle.
By integrating this capability directly into Bedrock, AWS simplifies the workflow for developers already using the platform. The tool’s automated benchmarking also eliminates guesswork, giving teams clear data on which prompt-model combinations deliver the best balance of speed, accuracy, and cost.
