"They can game on a laptop, a phone, or a cloud service. The dedicated console is becoming a tough sell at these price points."

The $900 price tag would effectively reposition next-generation consoles as premium devices for hardcore enthusiasts, leaving the broader market behind. "If all you want is the next Madden or Call of Duty, paying $900 for a box seems absurd," says Cole.
